AESTHETIC PHENOMENON: CAMP!

Camp; a style known for it's irony. When I first heard that this was the Met Gala theme, I definitely had to do my research. The essay by Susan Sontag ("Notes on 'Camp'")Â explaining the extravagance of "bad taste" was not in my fashion knowledge. After checking it out, two things popped up in my mind: Lady Gaga and drag queens.
Being a fan of Gaga since "Poker Face", I remember her over the top style. Every red carpet event, her outfit was the main topic (Note: raw meat dress). I guess that's the point of Camp; an ensemble so artistic that it's odd, but memorable.
And we can't forget the drag queens (who I personally think created this style)! Drag races and ball culture embody Camp. The point of these competitions is to see who can be the most audacious. Biggest hair. Loudest outfit.
Although the reigning queen of the Met, Rihanna, was not in attendance, there were still some notable looks. Lady Gaga literally had wardrobe changes on the carpet. And we can't forget princess Zendaya leaving a glass slipper! If this doesn't represent extra-ness, what does?
